Soft Grippers in Robotics Soft grippers are an enabling technology, as their structural compliance aligns with the unstructured conditions of harvesting, allowing them to adapt to irregularities in shape and size within and beyond crops. The aim of the project is to investigate methods to create an agricultural-gripping system that can adapt to environmental and task changes automatically. Main focus of investigation will be multi-functional structures as a method to enable embodied intelligence, particularly by looking at multi-scale mechanical metamaterials that encode different stiffness and shapes in each stable configuration.
