Project: Electrochemistry and Photo-electrochemistry of Halide Perovskites

Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Anna Fischer

The aim of the SolStore initiative is the complete integration of energy conversion and storage capabilities in a monolithic device for sustainable energy requirements. Halide perovskites possess tremendous photovoltaic properties and have also been shown to behave as a cathode material in lithium ion batteries, displaying a reversible intercalation of lithium cations within the perovskite crystal structure. We propose to take advantage of this multifunctionality by fabricating two-electrode photo-charging batteries of halide perovskite with lithium as the counter electrode. My research focuses on the electrochemical and photo-electrochemical properties of a number of 2D and 3D halide perovskites for energy storage purposes. Properties of particular interest include the specific capacity of the material, the potential regimes at which reversible lithium intercalation is achievable, and the investigation of strategies for improving stability.
