Classical science studies the nature of things and the property of matter - what things are. The so-called technoscience explore the power of things and the affordances of matter - what things can do. Nanotechnology, materials science, new business models all contribute to an enhancement of material nature which affect in many ways our relation to the material world - not unlike our first encounter one hundred years ago with plastics.
Alfred Nordmann is professor of philosophy of science and of technoscience at Technische Universität Darmstadt, guest-professor primarily at Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytech University. He is author of introductions to Wittgenstein’s Tracatatus logico-philosophicus and to the Philosophy of Technology, editor of the book-series History and Philosophy of Technoscience and of the journal Technology and Language.
